Welcome to the Arts & Entertainment Section: Downtown Kingsport Association in
the new millennium realized the importance of bringing the Arts to Downtown
Kingsport. In 2000 we had the first Evening with the Arts that started a legacy
of providing a venue for new and emerging Artists as well as known local
Artists. Part of the reinvention of the Downtown Kingsport Association at that
time was dealing with the economic survival of the organization while achieving
our various missions. The Main Art Center (MAC) was a part of that vision.
Created by Mark Freeman and Scott Welmaker (then working for Mark) the vision of
the Arts in Downtown was a blending of Fine Art, Music Sculpture and Dance. Some
of the first Downtown Concerts were produced under the concept of A & E at the
MAC moniker. We did an Octoberfest in 2004 with Sam Bush that was attended by
more than 600 people from several states. Downtown has built upon these risky
and feeble beginnings to the venues we see today.
For Artists, Actors, Entertainers and Players - Since the
creation of the Main Arts Center Concept there has been a goal to support and
promote the Arts in Downtown and Beyond. We now have a new tool to support
Artists of all types, this channel. We have created a new type of membership to
DKA for Artists. Artist Friends of DKA allows for the
participation in DKA events and functions and have acces to this site to list
the who, what, when and where regarding our Artist Friends. Providing video or
audio and image based video (Picassa.com is a place to produce these) showing
the works and workings of the Artist. We would like for this to be a place that
clients, fans and customers can see many of the offerings of the Downtown and
Surrounding Area. This membership is for $25.00 per year to help support the
effort. The funds will reside in the Main Art Center dedicated to the promotion
of the Arts. This applies to individual Artisens and Groups of Performers not
Galleries or Retail Establishments. DKA can help with video production or you
can submit you own. One image per listing as a Thumbnail is suggested and videos
should be around 3 minutes but less than 10 minutes if possible. Classes are
planned to help with self production or other promotion ideas.

Downtown Kingsport's first nonprofit gallery with a mission of supporting
emerging Artists as well as established Artists in a gallery where they can
learn, reinforce each other and sell work. The other component of our mission is
to see more galleries in Downtown Kingsport. The Wallflowers are a group of
Artists displaying at the MAC consistently with rotating for sale collections
