Art in the Heart Fall Classes

The Fall Class Schedule is in full swing at Art in the Heart. There are so many great classes for and they just added 2 more! It’s a great way to spend some time with friends or do something for yourself.

Beginning Acrylic Painting
Saturday September 24, 2016 Acrylic painting class for beginners. Introduction to the wide range of possibilities for both figurative and non-figurative artwork using acrylic paint and collage, . Taught by Anne Thwaites. Call gallery for supply list.
Jeweled Trinket Box Workshop
Saturday October 1, 2016 Learn to make this unique Jeweled Trinket Box with Mosaic Artist Fran Rathburn. This box will be crafted from your own personal items such as buttons, tiny sea shells, beads, etc. or choose from Fran’s collection. You will be guided through the entire process to make this personalized keepsake. Contact the gallery for complete list of tools and items to bring to class.
Fused Glass Plate
Thursday October 13, 2016 Originally from Rochester, New York, Karen Hitchock has taught fused glass classes for over 10 years. Students will learn how to safely handle glass while cutting shapes and assembling pieces to make a beautiful glass plate. They will also learn about different types of glass and their usage. At completion of class, instructor will take completed projects to fire for the student. All supplies are furnished.
Shaker Spoon Basket with Joy Smith
Saturday October 15, 2016 Joy Smith is an expert in Nantucket and Shaker style basketry, with over 25 years’ experience. She splits her time between Kingsport, Tennessee and Norfolk, Virginia. In this class students will learn to make the Shaker Spoon Basket with Woven Black Ash splint Handles or Bonnet Handle. All materials will be provided. Each student will leave class with a finished basket.
Fused Glass Pendant Class
Wednesday October 19, 2016 Fused Glass Pendant workshop with Karen Hitchcock – Originally from Rochester, NY, Karen Hitchcock has over 12 years experience making and teaching the art of fused glass. She studied at Corning Glass Center, Oatka School of Glass and Alfred University perfecting her craft. Each student will have the opportunity to make up to 10 different pendants using glass provided by the instructor. The cost of the class is $50 and all supplies are provided. Come make gifts of art in glass for your friends and family…or yourself!
Portrait Drawing
Saturday October 22, 2016 In this class students will learn a basic approach to drawing the portrait in charcoal on paper. Working from a model, the class will cover analyzing form, proportions in features, perspective and using line and edges. Drawing experience is must for the this intermediate class. Students will need to provide charcoal drawing paper, charcoal pencils or sticks, a kneaded eraser and a large drawing board for class. Instructor – Donna Bird
Watercolor: Painting Without a Safety net
Wednesday October 26, 2016 Unleash watercolor in all its lusciousness! Dance with color. Be bold. Be free. Your paintings will stem from simple suggestions that invite you to experiment with technique and design in order to make the medium your own. Instructor Nancy Jane Earnest will offer personal assistance as needed. Suitable for those new to watercolor as well as seasoned painters who would like to work with more spontaneity. Ages: high school and up.
